When you build your Shopify store, you will see a small section at the bottom that says “Powered by Shopify.”
This only appears if you are using a free Shopify theme. Shopify uses the fact that you are using a free theme as a chance to show ads.
Some customers don’t like to see this because it gives the impression that your website is free and that you didn’t make it yourself.
This hurts your credibility, which could make people not want to buy from you.
So, how do you get rid of this?
This can be done in a number of ways. You can do it yourself, or you can contact Shopify support and ask them to do it for you.
You can do it yourself if you know how to write theme code. First, figure out if you are using a Section theme or a Non-section theme.
Go to your theme and look for “Edit Code” to do this.
Here, you have to move down until you see Sections. You are using the Sections theme if there are files in there. If there are no files there, you’re using a theme that doesn’t have sections.
Theme Broken Up
First, you will need to change the language settings for your theme. Just do what’s written below.
- Go to the Online Store and click on “Themes.”
- Click “Actions” and then “Edit Languages.”
- Find the Filter Translations button. Type the word “powered” in this box.
- Then, you’ll find a “Powered by Shopify” box. Here, use your spacebar to make a single space.
- The words will go away. If you want to get this out of the “Opening Soon” section of your store, you can do the same steps, but you have to look for the Shopify HTML box.
- If the system asks for your password, type it in and click “Save.”
The next step is to make changes to the Footer.Liquid Section.
Do these things:
- Go to the Online Store > Themes
- Select Actions > Edit code
- Scroll down to Sections, then click the footer.liquid file to open it.
- Look for these letters and numbers: {{ powered_by_link }}
- Click and delete it. Save
Theme Without Sections
If there are no files in the Section section of your Shopify theme, it is not sectioned. To get rid of the text, you need to do two things.
First, change the settings for the language as we did earlier. The second step is to find the file called “theme.liquid.”
To do it, follow these steps:
- Go to the Online Store and click on “Themes.”
- Click on Actions > Edit code
- Find a folder called Layout. Click it to get it to open.
- Click theme.liquid
- Find a group of people who look like this: {{ powered_by_link }}
- Get rid of it and click Save.
Conclusion
Different Shopify themes put the text in different places. You might find the characters you’re looking for in any folder that has the word “LIQUID” in it.
